PRAJ facilitated a series of three biodiversity and community conservations workshops to initiate coordinated community advocacy and protection initiatives in the Phnom Aurol area. These workshops brought together up to 35 community representatives and NGO workers from around Phnom Aoral and the greater Cardamoms to learn about the importance of biodiversity and to discuss how communities can monitor their own environments and inform their own protection and advocacy initiatives. These workshops focused on how to build community solidarity.
PRAJ organized an introductory workshop in Rattanakiri for 32 NGO workers and community representatives, all from indigenous groups in Rattanakiri and Mondolkiri. The workshop focused on biodiversity, and explored ways that local communities can play an active role in managing natural resources.
PRAJ also helped communities from around Prey Lang gather to discuss biodiversity and forest resource management issues. Several communities implemented protective actions including patrolling. Others agreed to take measures to better protect their own forest areas, including stopping the use of explosives in fishing and refusing to participate in monkey-trapping and illegal logging. |
