In addition to its case work, PILAP undertakes policy advocacy and research on selected issues.
For example, beginning in 2005, PILAP convened a series of roundtable discussions on the topic of fair and just compensation. These discussions brought together NGOs, donors, and government officials to discuss how to handle this critically important question in any forced relocation of communities. Also in 2005, PILAP began a collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and a broad range of NGOs to discuss and ultimately draft a new law on Peaceful Assembly. The final draft of this law is currently awaiting action by the National Assembly. PILAP has also provided substantial comments to a number of draft documents, including the Economic Land Concession Sub-decree, the State Land Management Sub-decree, and the Resettlement Sub-decree.
