(12 villages in 4 communes in 3 districts)
Project Summary:
This project promotes the rights of indigenous
minority groups to access and manage natural
resources. Indigenous people in the target
area will:
• Show improved knowledge on basic
rights, democracy, land law and advocacy
skills and improved ability to protect
their rights to access and manage forest
resources.
• Be able to access legal support
and intervention provided by other NGOs
when their rights to natural resources
are violated.
• Be empowered to advocate with
local authorities and concerned stakeholders
to protect their rights to access and
manage natural resources.
About the Organization:
HROTP was founded on June 19, 1998 as
a non- governmental human rights organization.
It was legally recognized by the Ministry
of Interior on September 14, 2001. Its
purpose is to promote democracy and respect
for human rights and laws of the Kingdom
of Cambodia aimed at enhancing transparency
and good governance in public administration
and judicial system and contributing to
the people’s poverty reduction in
accordance with the rectangular strategy
platform of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Since its foundation, HROTP received small
grants from DanChurchAid to support its
activities.
The organization is governed by a 3 member
Board of Directors. The overall management
of the organization is run by the Management
Committee and chaired by the President
of the organization. The Management Committee
is the body to execute and coordinate
all action plans and to assist the Executive
Director in implementing the activities
of the Organization.
At present, HROTP has a Central Office
in Phnom Penh and 5 branch offices in
Mondulkiri, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap,
Kompong Speu, and Stung Treng provinces.
HROTP has 29 staff members including 3
women. The organization is actively working
to improve its gender balance.
HROTP cooperates with other NGOs and is
also a member of COMFREL Steering Committee,
Cambodia Independent Watch Committee on
Corruption (CIWCC) and Khmer Kampuchea
Krom Coordination Committee (KKKCC).
