Child Rights and Social Welfare

Project Summary:
The project promotes awareness among villagers,
especially teenagers and women, on the rights
of women and children; empowers community-based
protection networking group to advocate for
issues relating trafficking of children and
women; strengthens the ability of villagers,
especially woman and children groups, to approach
concerned government offices and NGOs at the
local level to take proper action in combating
child abuse and violence against women.

Ney Kdey Sangkheum (KNKS), is a registered local
non-governmental, non-political, non-profit
Cambodian organization devoted to community
development and promotion of children's rights
in Pursat Province, Cambodia. The organization
was founded when Wathnakpheap and its principal
international donor, Pestalozzi Children's Foundation
(SKIP) of Switzerland, decided to fully localize
their ongoing community-based child development
program in Pursat Province. From 1 January 2003,
the comprehensive management of this program
in Kandieng District Province passed from Wathnakpheap
to KNKS. Wathnakpheap in turn assumes the role
of a partner in development, extending advice,
guidance and support to KNKS.
KNKS has a Governing Board comprising of 5 members
(Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and
2 members), which establishes policies and ensures
that strategic approaches are consistent with
organizational aims.
KNKS has 13 permanent and 5 part time staff,
9 of whom are women. Staff work in 4 project
activity sectors based in Kandieng & Sampeuv
Meas districts of Pursat Province. KNKS uses

Kunathor
(KNT)

Project Title: People Rights
Based and Grassroots Advocacy
Project Area: Battambang and
Bantey Meanchey (24 villages in 3 communes in
3 districts)
Project Summary:
The project aims to increase the knowledge of
the community people on basic human rights,
land & civil law; introduce advocacy skills
and the ability to protect their rights to access
natural resources through public forums.
• Human Rights Based Community Working
Groups (HRBCWG) members are selected and trained
about rights and natural resource laws; advocacy;
dissemination and facilitation skills
• HRBCWB members in turn conduct education
sessions for community members
• Public forums at district level target
issues identified among the community people
• Youth are mobilized to form Core youth
groups, and selected members will participate
in one study tour to a well-established youth

About the Organization: Kunathor
Organization (or KNT) is a Cambodian, non-governmental
organization created in June 1995 by the initiating
ideas of two Cambodians and registered with
Ministry of the Interior in October 1996. Kunathor
has a 5-member Board of Directorswho hold the
legislative power of the organization. Kunathor’s
vision focuses mainly on the Community Development
through development of the economy, human resources,
rights and power of the people, administration
of natural resources, and advocacy activities.
Kunathor has set up a plan to support decentralization
since its started its projects in 1998, mainly
based on the problems, the needs and the planning
of the villagers. In 2005 the Battambang provincial
authority awarded Kunathor a Congratulation
certificate for its work in supporting the Commune
Council to work in a decentralized manner.
Kunathor has 7 staff members including 3 women.
At the initial stage of its mission, Kunathor
only made use of the resources contributed by
the villagers, when there was no financial support
and capacity building provided by donors. Kunathor
has good collaboration with other NGOs, Authorities,
and has participated in many networks, such
as: Star Kampuchea (Advocacy network), Health
network (Medicam), FACT (Fishery Community works),
Credit network, and CEDAC (Agriculture following
the nature), and the Forest Community network.

Rural Development Association (KRDA)

Project Title: Domestic Violence
and Child Rights Protection
Project Area: Moung Russey
District, Battambang province (9 communes)
Summary: This project will
increase awareness, knowledge and skills of
villagers, especially women, community leaders
and women-based group network on children rights,
women rights and domestic violence protection
through disseminating quality information and
assisting them to access legal aid services.
The project activities include conducting assessments
and group discussions with key community leaders
and women groups to identify and improve knowledge
and attitudes on specific issues, conducting
public forums; facilitating the community women’s
network to seek legal aid services for cases
of gender-based violence, providing advice on
how to deal with specific cases of abuse.
About the Organization: Khmer
Rural Development Association (KRDA) is a legal
Non Government Organization of Cambodia was
established in July 1992 in the refugee Camp
of site II in Thailand. Cambodian refugee teachers
who saw the needs to gain training in community
to assist the poor farmers once they return
to Cambodia founded by KRDA. KRDA registered
in November 1992 with the Supreme National Council
(SNC) of Cambodia and is fully recognized by
the United Nation Transitional Authorities in
Cambodia (UNTAC) as a Non-Government Organization.
The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia registered
in May 1996.
KRDA has been base in Moung Russey District
for long term, and set formulated its long term
strategy for development project there. Its
staff workers are resident of the district;
it is therefore be easy for the staffs to follow-up
the result of the project for at least two years
after the expiry project grant. They maintain
contact with group of people trained, self help
group and community representative set up to
provided continuum of informing and necessary
needed
KRDA has 26 staff, 12 women and 14 Men, working
on 4 projects. KRDA has a 5-member Board of
Directors. KRDA has received funding from several
donors.
