Project Title: Advocacy for Land Rights
Project Area: Kratie Province
Summary: The project aims for improved respect for human rights, democracy and laws, especially the Land Law, in the target area through communities who are empowered to stand together to express opinions and concerns and to advocate with relevant government institutions, officials, and NGOs. Specific objectives include
. Community networks in 72 villages of 14 communes in 2 districts of Kratie Province are more effective in advocating for the rights of their communities.
. Capacity of 56 community key players increased so that they are able to effectively pass knowledge to the others in their communities and build momentum to demand their rights.
. Awareness about laws, especially the Land Law, advocacy strategies and basic conflict analysis is improved among the target group. About the Organization VPS is a local non-government organization whose work focuses on the poorer communities. VPS was established on 27th July 2002 and officially registered with The Cambodian Royal Ministry of Interior on 15th January 2003. VPS is committed to mobilize poor communities to voice their concerns. VPS engages in advocacy with all levels of authorities to demand for the basic needs of the poorer communities. VPS was established and received funding from Action aid International starting from September 2002. Its main activities focused on Community Capacity Building, Advocacy for Land Rights, Poor Women's Health Care and Community Income Generation. It implemented projects in 18 villages in 4 communes of Kratie & Samboure Districts in Kratie Province. VPS brings together communities and commune council members. Currently, VPS is also carrying out an anti-corruption project, Veracity In Living, supported by Pact Cambodia.
